ATTAC (Association pour une taxation des transactions financières pour l’aide aux citoyens)

The International ATTAC Movement - “international movement for democratic control of financial markets and their institutions” - was created at an international meeting in Paris, in December, 1998. The network promotes economic reforms meant to tame the devastating power of the financial markets, and to favour democratic, transparent economic structures that serve the needs of ordinary people. The original focus of work was on the establishment of a global solidarity tax on transactions in the exchange market, known as the Tobin Tax. The groups’ actions have since diversified and combine activism with research.
